Submitted by on 07/18/2011

Don't believe what your friends have been telling you: you don't have to sell your organs on the black market to be able to afford a room in New York City. With just a few clicks of the mouse, you can find a New York City hotel room that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

One of the best ways to save money on New York City hotel rooms is by booking a hotel in Brooklyn. Brooklyn hotels are considerably cheaper than comparable Manhattan hotels, mainly because you're not within walking distance of Manhattan attractions. If, however, you're not bothered by the inconvenience of riding the subway, or if you'd prefer to see a less touristy side of the city, you would do well to look at some of the following Brooklyn hotels. Here in New York City's most populous borough you'll find everything from enchanting boutique hotels such as Hotel Le Jolie to well-appointed luxury hotels such as the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. Don't forget to take advantage of special NYC hotel promos!

Summer Events in New York City

Submitted by on 07/13/2011

Like most popular tourist destinations, New York City draws huge crowds in the summer. If you happen to find yourself in New York City on a hot summer day, take a few minutes to browse this list of summer events in NYC:

1. Visit a museum. Want to beat the heat? Take a trip to one of New York City's famous fine arts museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Guggenheim. There you'll have the chance to admire legendary works of art in a quiet, air-conditioned environment.

2. Go to a concert. New York City offers plenty of fun things to do on a warm summer night. One of our favorite things? Catching a free opera concert at Central Park. We recommend bringing a blanket and a picnic dinner for an extra romantic night under the stars. Those who are more inclined to classical music might enjoy venturing out to Brooklyn, where they'll find Bargemusic, New York City's only floating concert venue.

Fun Things to Do on 4th of July in NYC

Submitted by on 06/28/2011

There are many fun things to do in NYC on the Fourth of July. One of the most cherished 4th of July traditions is the Macy's Fireworks Show. At this kid-friendly 4th of July event, the Manhattan skyline will be lit by 40,000 exploding shells set off from six barges on the Hudson River. While you've no doubt seen the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Show live on TV, you've probably never seen the show from the deck of a luxury cruising vessel. American Princess, Seastreak, and Circle-Line all offer fabulous views of the Fourth of July fireworks show in NYC. Book early to ensure yourself a spot!

Killer Musical Bound for Broadway

Submitted by on 06/27/2011

What you've heard is true: Bonnie and Clyde, the notorious bank-robbing criminals who captivated Depression-era America with their brazenly violent exploits, are bound for Broadway.

After successful productions at the La Jolla Playhouse in California and the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, the Bonnie & Clyde Musical will open this fall at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater, with previews beginning November 4 and an opening night scheduled for December 1. The musical will star original cast members Laura Osnes (Anything Goes) as Bonnie Parker and Jeremy Jordan (Rock of Ages, West Side Story) as Clyde Barrow. Jeff Calhoun will direct.

Pride Week in New York City

Submitted by on 06/21/2011

It's Pride Week in New York City, and this year the LGBT community has a lot to celebrate. For one thing, President Obama repealed the U.S. military's long-standing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. For another, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo introduced a bill that, if passed, would legalize gay marriage in New York. It's only fitting that a grand celebration should take place in New York City, the birthplace of the gay liberation movement. After all, it was only forty years ago that the Stonewall riots occurred in Manhattan's West Village, igniting the fight for gay rights.

New York City Opera to Leave Lincoln Center

Submitted by on 05/23/2011

It's a tragic day for opera lovers in New York City.

According to recently published reports, the New York City Opera is moving out of Lincoln Center, its home of 45 years, due to severe budget constraints.

Pressured by low ticket sales - less than half of the venue's seats are filled on a good night, according to the New York Post - the board of the opera house has decided to cut back on scheduled performances, downsize staff, and search for a smaller venue to accommodate the diminishing crowds.

Popular Broadway Shows

Submitted by on 05/16/2011

What trip to New York City would be complete without a fabulous Broadway show? One of our favorite Broadway shows is Chicago: The Musical. This memorable production, based on the 1926 play by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, is the longest-running musical revival in Broadway history and the fifth longest-running show. The play tells the story of Roxie Hart, an ambitious chorus girl who finds fame through murder. As a satire, this play is sure to entertain! Find promos for Chicago here.

The Roaring Twenties not your thing? Better check out Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Conceived by Julie Taymor and featuring music by U2's Bono and The Edge, this $60 million Broadway production - the most expensive in Broadway history - has received much publicity for its disastrous technical glitches and ever-delayed opening day. Despite poor reviews and changes in creative control (Taymor, the play's director, was recently ousted by the show's producers), the play continues to sell tickets and generate buzz. This is one play you simply must see, if not for its own merits, for its impact on history. Tickets start at just $67.50!
