Trek on up to 79th Street and climb to the top of Belvedere Castle for sweeping
vistas.
The castle is used as a weather station as well.
To
the top right you can see some of the seats in the Delacorte Theater which stages
Shakespeare in the Park.
2005 Shakespeare in the
Park Schedule Click here for more info.
Every summer, plays are staged free to
the public.
Tickets are available on a first come-first serve basis beginning at 1pm for each
evening's 8pm performance. Get there much earlier, however.
Walking east from the Delacorte theater, you'll find
Cleopatra's Needle.
The Ancient Egyptian obelisk dates from 1600 B.C. and was a gift
from Egypt. From here you can see the Metropolitan Museum of Art where you'll find the
Temple of Dendur and many more Egyptian treasures.
We've only touched the surface
of what you can discover in Central Park!
These are just many of the more popular attractions in Central
Park.
Places like the Ramble, the Great Lawn (newly renovated),
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, and the entire northern portion of Central Park
including the beautiful Conservatory Gardens at 105th Street are more of a challenge to
get to but well worth exploring!
