Greenwich Village Orchestra

The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) is the only symphony of its kind in downtown Manhattan. We're a 70-person volunteer orchestra committed to providing Lincoln Center quality at East Village prices while having fun in the process. Our members are ethnically diverse, and range in age from 22 to 82. We are accountants, actors, artists, attorneys, carpenters, editors, physicians, professors, programmers, psychologists, retirees, scientists, secretaries, teachers, writers and dedicated musicians.

Mission Statement: The Greenwich Village Orchestra, based in lower Manhattan, enriches our community with exhilarating, educational and affordable symphonic performances.

Under the baton of accomplished music director Barbara Yahr, the GVO performs Bach to Bartok and beyond (we frequently premiere modern compositions). In addition to our regular concert season, we get off the stage and into the community. We hold an annual Family Concert geared towards young children, an annual Benefit Concert for the students of the school where we perform, we've recorded on the forthcoming album with Irish band Mr. North, and we continue to collaborate with the Union Square Partnership on a free outdoor summer concert. For more information, visit us online at www.gvo.org, and find out how we continue to put the 'cool' back into classical.
