If you’re hoping to stay near Times Square, the Sheraton is an upscale option that keeps its distance from the most tourist-y parts of Times Square.
If you stay in the 50-55th St. range on Broadway (where this beautiful hotel resides) you can get the best of both worlds - close to Times Square but far enough away to breathe.
The lobby at The Sheraton is huge; OK, the entirety of the hotel is huge. This is an all-purpose hotel that does conferences, weddings, etc. You can kick back in the lobby area and people-watch, I think I saw a bar area, and each member of the staff I came into contact with was courteous and let me take as many pictures as I liked.
One thing I did notice I that The Sheraton has a great view of the Times Square area in which the New Year’s Eve ball drops. You can see the signs from right outside the hotel, and I can only assume that some of the rooms on the Downtown side of the building have some spectacular views of that area.
Basically, if you’re willing to pony up the coin, The Sheraton at Times Square is a great option near Times Square, Carnegie Hall and several famous delicatessens.
