There are plenty of fun things to do in NYC on the Fourth of July. One of the most obvious but cherished 4th of July traditions is the Macy's Fireworks Show. At this kid-friendly 4th of July event, the Manhattan skyline will be lit by thousands of exploding shells set off from six barges on the Hudson River. While you've no doubt seen the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Show live on TV, you've probably never seen the show from the deck of a luxury cruising vessel. American Princess and Classic Harbor Line offer fabulous views of the Fourth of July fireworks show in NYC. Book early to ensure yourself a spot!

If you're looking for cheap things to do on the 4th of July, consider attending Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Brooklyn, a Fourth of July tradition for over 100 years (who is Nathan anyway?). At this fun 4th of July event, competitors will fight to see who can eat the largest number of hot dogs (burp...) in ten minutes. Expect crowds in excess of 40,000.

Other fun NYC attractions open on the 4th of July include Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, where you'll find the lifelike wax statues of celebrities and public figures, and the Central Park Zoo, where you'll find many of the world's most exotic animals, including polar bears and snow leopards.
