Hotel Wolcott - Mad Men's NYC
It's easy to imagine Don Draper or Roger Sterling holed up in the Wolcott, banished from their homes by their wives after yet another affair or inter-office scandal...
Why? Because is the Hotel Wolcott is classic NYC, through-and-through. You'll experience this right away when you walk into the entrance and are greeted by the immaculate staircase and chandeliers in the lobby. The bellboys wear vintage hotel attire because nothing else would fit (stylistically, not literally), to be honest. While the staircase is the headliner of the lobby, the entire room - which is small-ish and intimate, but certainly doesn't lack comfort or charm - is pretty impressive, and is classic-Midtown from top to bottom.
The Hotel Wolcott is a bit of a landmark in Manhattan, and their just-out-of-the-way location on 31st and 5th is exactly the kind of neighborhood I preferred in NYC; it's not too far from the best attractions (the Empire State Building is easily visible and is a mere three blocks away), but it''s also not surrounded by tourist traps, either. Essentially, the Wolcott is entrenched in a real-live neighborhood which, whether it's your first, third or 100th time in New York is what you would really prefer to experience.
The Wolcott is the definition of classic boutique hotels in Midtown Manhattan, making it perhaps an underrated hidden gem on the west side of Midtown.

Vintage Feel at the Hotel Wolcott
As you enter the Hotel Wolcott, you'll immediately feel like you have left the streets of New York City far behind and have stepped back in time. The lobby has a lovely vintage feeling; the decor is beautifully executed to project a warm and comfortable feeling. This old-fashioned feeling extends to the hallways and guest rooms.
However, the rooms do not seem old or worn out like some vintage hotel rooms. Instead, you get a touch of classicism, but you can tell that the guest rooms have been renovated and are very clean.
