Summary
Features: Lasker Ice Rink is located in Central Park, near the Harlem neighborhoods in Manhattan. It is one of the largest ice skating rinks in the Manhattan area. Lasker Rink NYC accommodates casual ice skaters, and also supports events and parties along with ice hockey and other smaller sporting events.
Why We Go: Lasker Ice Rinks offers plenty to do for visitors in Central Park, and even has options for those that don't know how to ice skate.
- Ice Hockey: The Lasker Rink NYC offers plenty of space for people who want to play a game of ice hockey. In fact, this trump Lasker ice skating rink runs both youth and adult leagues for locals interested in longer play throughout the season.
- Skating School: Don't know how to ice skate? Not a problem. Lasker Ice Rink offers skating school for visitors that want to learn how to move on the ice without falling on it.
- Cheap: We're really surprised at how inexpensive ice skating is at Lasker Ice Rink. When compared to other rinks, such as the one in Rockefeller Center, the amount of entertainment you get for the price isn't close. Lasker Ice Rink is one of the best deals you will get for a few hours of fun.
Inside Knowledge: When the winter season is over, the Lasker Ice Rink transforms from an ice skating haven to an outdoor public swimming pool for the summer months.
Do's and Don'ts:
- Do Reserve a Locker: If you want a safe place to store your belongings, then check out a locker. Rentals for locker space is relatively cheap and the deposit is also low in price.
- Do Visit Year Round: Whether you are looking for a place to play ice hockey or a place to swim, the Lasker Ice Rink has activities available to guests throughout the year, even when the rink isn't even an ice rink.
- Don't Forget to Check the Schedule: We highly recommend calling the rink officials ahead of time to see whether the rink is open to the public. Sometimes, there are events that take up the entire skating rink, so it's a good idea to check before you go.
- Don't Worry About Owning Ice Skates: If you don't have your own pair of ice skates, then no worries. Lasker Ice Rink rents out skates for a very affordable price.

More Private Than Other NYC Rinks
Some may say Lasker is the rival rink to Wollman Rink, since they’re both in Central Park, but there are definitely differences in the two skating locations. A lot of New Yorkers would probably prefer Lasker, since it’s more private and less crowded with tourists. Wollman is so large in size that there are always a ton of people there during skating season and Lasker tends to be less crowded. Although this ice rink charges admission whether or not you have your own equipment, it’s still fairly cheap for a fun activity.
Wollman is great for big parties, but Lasker is a nice spot in Central Park to get away from the masses a bit and enjoy a peaceful day of skating. I think it’s also a great place to practice. It’s on the north end and Wollman is on the South end, so Lasker tends to attract more families than tourists due to it's location closer to the residential areas.
