New York City is a very proud city, and when it comes to the LGBT community, not many cities celebrate Pride bigger or better than NYC. New York City Pride 2012 events last a week long, kicking off June 16 with the NYC Pride Rally, and wrapping up June 24 with Dance on the Pier. Follow this guide so you don't skip a beat throughout pride week 2012 New York City Lineup!
Saturday June 16: The Rally
NYC Pride week 2012 will start with a bang, at the Pride Rally at the East River Bandshell, featuring performances by LGBT celebs and motivational speakers. This year's Pride Rally will be co-MC's by Jai Rodriguez from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Fortune Feimster from Chelsea Lately. ASL interpreters will be present at the rally.
Wednesday June 20: Family Night : Wonka by the Water
Pride is welcoming families with children of all ages to come out and view Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in an outdoor viewing by the Hudson River. Sweet treats will be provided in theme with the colorful classic, as well as rainbow blankets and balloons. Ross Matthews from Chelsea Lately will be hosting the Wonka by the Water event, starting at 7:30pm, and the film will begin at dusk. Arrive on-time to claim your spot because this free Pride event is first-come, first-served.
Saturday June 23: Rapture on the River
Out and proud women won't want to miss Rapture on the River - a fun outdoor festival by day and wild dance party at night, DJ'd by Missy B & Trini, and Whitney Day. The event is moving locations this year and will be held at Pier 57 on the water. Lesbian, bisexual and transgender women are encouraged to celebrate their pride at Rapture after the Pride Dyke March, from 4pm-11pm. Advanced tickets are $25, day of admission is $35 and VIP tickets are $75, which include open bar, after-party access and some free food.
Sunday June 24: The March
NYC Pride March is the largest celebration of Pride in the world, ahd this free event welcomes participants of all ages, from all backgrounds in support of the LGBT community, as well as the fight against AIDS. The NYC Pride March has been raising awareness annually for over 40 years. The 2012 Pride March Grand Marshalls will be Cyndi Lauper, Phyllis Siegel, Connie Kopelov and Chris Salgardo. Show your pride and join the march at 11am for the 12pm start at 36th Street and 5th Avenue.
Sunday June 24: Offical Pridefest
NYC Pridefest is a famous annual LGBT event on Hudson Street between Abingdon Square and West 14th Street. This street festival welcomes locals, tourists, volunteers, families and local business owners to join the community support in celebrating LGBT Pride! Street vendors and entertainers will join in the huge celebration through the streets for a free day of fun from 11am-7pm.
Sunday June 24: Dance on the Pier
The second Pier 57 dance party of Pride, Dance on the Pier will be held after Pridefest, from 5pm-2am at Hudson River Park. DJs The Perry Twins, DJ Boris and DJ Eddie Baez will be dropping beats for dancers all night long, with special performances as well. General admission tickets are $90 and VIP tickets are $165 which include free open bar, an elevated viewing platform, free fruit and acces to Vitamin Water Lounge.
