New York City has three main airports to choose from and a conveniently located heliport in downtown Manhattan. Each year, millions of people pass through these New York City airports and heliport on their way to and from the NYC area.
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
Known simply as “JFK”, the airport is located in Queens (at the south end of the Van Wyck Expressway) approximately 15 miles southeast of midtown Manhattan. When traffic is flowing well it takes about 30-45 minutes by car. JFK is the biggest of the New York airports and handles domestic and international flights.
LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
“LaGuardia”, is located on the northern shore of Queens (on the Grand Central Parkway, is 9 miles from midtown Manhattan and mainly handles domestic flights, Canada and the Caribbean. Most domestic flights in the U.S.A come through LaGuardia (there are some exceptions such as Continental Airlines). LaGuardia is accessible by the rand Central Parkway, local highways, a ferry from Manhattan and by helicopter and seaplane.
Newark International Airport (EWR)
“Newark”, in Newark, New Jersey, is located south of Newark on Newark Bay and handles both domestic and international flights. It is relatively close to Manhattan - approximately 16 miles southwest from midtown Manhattan and is especially convenient from and to the west side of Manhattan. Newark airport is accessible from the New Jersey Turnpike Exits 13A and 14 and from U.S. Routes 1 & 9 and I-78. It is 3 miles south of Newark, New Jersey and is quite convenient for passengers continuing on by car to the north or south (via the New Jersey Turnpike) or the west on Rt. 78.
New York City Heliports and Helicopter Airport Service
Manhattan has several primary heliports serving the general public and private helicopter companies that provide charter services, tours and scheduled air transportation to and from New York City’s airports. The E. 34 St. Heliport is located in Midtown just off FDR Drive. The Downtown Manhattan Heliport, or the "DMH", is located Downtown at the foot of Wall Street on the East River and is one of the most advanced heliports in the industry. Also serving Manhattan is the West 30th St. Heliport. All locations are just minutes away from Kennedy, Newark, LaGuardia and Teterboro Airports which makes it very convenient for busy executives, leisure travelers and sightseers who want to experience the sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline and the convenience of fast, affordable transportation to and from the NYC area airports.
