Numero 28 Pizzeria - Best Pizza in NYC!

I went to Numero 28 Pizzeria for dinner with a friend who lives in the East Village and she said this place was a favorite Italian restaurant of hers, and now it’s one of mine too.  They served the best pizza I’ve had in New York City, and that’s quite a title from a pizza lover in the city that’s famous for it.

It’s a very cozy atmosphere, with brick walls and intimate booth and table seating on a level and a half. The front half of the restaurant is raised up by just a few steps and gives diners a street view.   The lighting is dim, with chandeliers hanging overhead.

We ordered a half and half pizza – vegetarian and margarita, but they accidentally forgot to do half of it margarita, so they brought us an entire additional pizza to make up for it.  The service was excellent.  The pizzas are enormous – they have 18” and 24” which can be shared between a family easily.  They are long and rectangular, but they also have smaller round pizzas on the menu.  We also ordered a ½ carafe of sangria, which was delicious and only $15.  They had it by the glass for $7.

This place is cash only, but they do have an ATM inside the restaurant that hands out money by the $10 bill, which was unusual, but I enjoyed it.  Overall the food was scrumptious and authentically Italian, the service was superb, and the vibe was quiet and a great place to catch up with a friend or go on a date. I definitely recommend it!

NYCTourist Travel Info

Features:  Numero 28 Pizzeria in New York City is a favorite amongst locals for East Village pizza, and is becoming more and more well-known throughout New York.  Numero 28 pizza is created from only the best quality and freshest ingredients, baked in traditional brick ovens, and served in 3 size: 14, 18, or 29 inches.

Why We Dine:  The menu Numero 28 East Village is packed with much more than just amazing pizza and the warm and welcoming interior makes guests feel right at home.

  • The Pizza:  Clearly known for their amazing pizza selection, this is the main reason folks go to Numero 28 Pizzeria, and probably the biggest reason they keep coming back.  There are over 20 pizzas to choose from on the menu, and countless pies to create your own.
  • The Rest: Besides Numero 28 pizza, the restaurant also makes rigatoni, lasagna, ravioli, baked ziti, lunguine, penne and other pastas, as well as daily soups, entrees and appetizers like salads, caprese, calzones, bruschetta and more - an Italian eater's dream.
  • Ambiance: The interior of Numero 28 East Village is quite inviting, with dim chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and candle lighting on each table.  The main dining room is slightly split in two by a second level just a few steps up, with a window view.  Both booth and table seating is available and tables can be arranged for larger parties.

Inside Knowledge:  Numero 28 Pizzeria is cash-only, but there is an ATM inside the restaurant, which dispenses cash in $10 bills.

We Recommend:

  • Sangria: The red sangria is a perfect blend of tart and sweet, and is served by the glass, carafe or half carafe.
  • 1/2 and 1/2 Pizzas: Not only are the Numero 28 pizza portions large and great for sharing, but Numero 28 Pizzeria allows you to create pizzas 1/2 one flavor and 1/2 another flavor.  Mix and match sauces and toppings to create 2 in one - great for sharing and trying different styles!
