Official New York Blog

New York City is home to hundreds, possibly thousands, of amazing bakeries cooking up sweet treats. It’s easy to become overwhelmed when trying to choose just one (or more, if you’re addicted like me!), so here are the top 5 most amazing sweets to try while in NYC.

1. La Bella Ferrara’s Cannoli

One of Little Italy’s best kept secrets, this quaint Italian bakery is home to arguably the most delicious and authentic cannolis in town. They have a flavor for every appetite: mint, red velvet, hazelnut, tiramisu, and of course, original. Cannolis aren’t the only awesome thing this bakery serves up, their rainbow cookies are always fresh out of the oven and equally as scrumptious! The dining area is a bit small, so take your delicious cannoli, rainbow cookie, and hot cappuccino out to munch on while wandering around Little Italy.

2. Spot Dessert Bar’s Chocolate Green Tea Lava Cake

This chic dessert bar in East Village offers up some amazing sweets, but what it’s known for may surprise you! Chocolate and green tea, an unlikely combination, come together in their lava cake dessert and the result is absolutely heavenly. The warm dark chocolate cake has gooey green tea ganache inside of it, and is served with green tea ice cream and walnut soil (my mouth is watering as I type this). This spot offers many other options for those who may not be ready for the yumminess of their lava cake, such as their Soft Cheesecake and Golden Toast.

3. Dominique Ansel Bakery’s Cronut

People have stood in line for hours before the sun has even come up for them. They’ve sold on the black market for up to $100. This dessert in NYC, the cronut, is a rare, albeit delicious gem that is definitely worth getting out of bed before the crack of dawn. Line up early and grab yourself one of these sweet, flaky croissant/donuts, but not before uploading a photo to Instagram and bragging to all of your friends. If you’re not lucky enough to snag one of these babies, try one of their other delicious treats. Their DKA pastry, comparable to a caramelized croissant, is absolutely divine as well.

4. Beard Papa’s Cream Puff

World’s best cream puff at a Japanese bakery? See for yourself at Beard Papa’s in the Upper West Side. Pick your shell and filling flavor and experience the creamy deliciousness. Beard Papa's has multiple locations around the world, so if you become addicted during your NYC vacation, there may be one close to you back at home!

5. Momofuku Milk Bar’s Crack Pie

This bakery has multiple locations in NYC, and has customers requesting more around the world! Momofuku Milk Bar is known for its variety of pastries including their Birthday Cake and Compost Cookies, but what has New York City craving more is their infamous Crack Pie. A simple ingredient list consisting of butter, sugar, brown sugar, and cream makes this pie a must try dessert in NYC!

What goes better with dessert than coffee and tea? Check out the Coffee and Tea Festival happening March 22, 2014 and March 23, 2014 from 11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., where you can sample thousands of different coffees and teas with your pastries!

By the time your belly is stuffed with super yummy sweets, you’ll need a cozy bed to rest in! The Manhattan Club and JW Marriott Essex House are both great hotel options in Manhattan, so be sure to check NYCTourist.com frequently for specials!

There you have it, guys. Your sweet tooth is welcome in advance.
