New York City is home to many of the tallest skyscrapers in the world, which means there are plenty of amazing places to see this beautiful metropolis and its surroundings from up high! It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the crowded, busy streets of New York City, so it’s important to expand your view beyond street level. The Manhattan Skyline, Hudson River, and Central Park are all sights to behold from up above, so read on for the best places for a birds-eye view of the city.

1. Top of the Rock

Visiting the Empire State Building may seem like the obvious choice for an amazing skyscraper view, but if given the opportunity to choose between ESB or the Top of the Rock, we’d definitely go with the Top of the Rock. Lines are shorter, it’s less busy, and the view is equally as breathtaking. Plus, you can actually view the exterior architecture of the Empire State Building in all of its gorgeous art-deco glory.

2. Skydive!

A bit off the beaten path is Skydive Jersey in Pittstown, New Jersey. If skydiving is on your bucket list, there is no better place to check it off than during your vacation in New York City! Take the scenic drive by free shuttle from the Hoboken PATH  through the beautiful countryside to historic Alexandria Field in Pittsdown. Once you’re there, don’t overthink it and psych yourself out, just do it. You won’t regret it! Check out their website for more information and how to reserve a spot: http://www.skydivejersey.com/

3. Helicopter Ride

Fly over the Big Apple with Liberty Helicopters. Take a tour of Manhattan on one of their Air Liberty Tours, and see the beautiful city from a whole new perspective. This will definitely make for unforgettable memories!

4. Brooklyn Bridge

Have a picnic at the Brooklyn Bridge park, arguably the cleanest and prettiest park in the city! Take in the stellar view of the Hudson along the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and of course, the iconic Brooklyn Bridge itself.

5. Classic Harbor Lines tour

See Manhattan from the Hudson on a Classic Harbor Lines cruise. The Around Manhattan Brunch Cruise is a great option for inclimate weather, as you can admire the beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline while you stay inside the comfortable, climate controlled glass observatory.

6. Robert Restaurant

Delicious food? Check! Breathtaking views? Check! Book a window seat at Robert Restaurant and enjoy a delicious meal while taking in views of Columbus Circle and Central Park. In addition to the stellar view, their dessert menu is to-die-for (try the Bombolini).

7. Ink48 Hotel

This Kimpton hotel in Midtown has some of the best views of the city. Whether you’re a guest at the hotel or are visiting their fabulous rooftop bar The Press Lounge, you’ll be able to enjoy the amazing, wrap-around views of Manhattan.

8. Battery Park

For a breath of fresh air and a fabulous view of the harbor, head to Battery Park. Go for a jog through the beautiful park and enjoy the nature, city views, and gorgeous view of the water and Statue of Liberty. After your run, cancel out all the work you just did and try Shake Shack right across the street (it’s worth it, we promise).

Seeing the city from a distance is incredible, but it isn't the only way to see the city. Take a walking tour or two to experience a day in the life of a real New Yorker on the busy streets of Manhattan! Check out our favorites here:
