The Sex and the City Tour by On Locations is great for fans of the show, which I am. This was the second On Locations Tour I took on my trip, and I wasn’t sure if it would be repetitive, and was pleasantly surprised when it was not. On Locations has several television and movie-themed tours around Manhattan, and many of them pass through the same areas of the City, but all of the information on the two tours I took were original.
From the moment I stepped onto the luxury bus (with food and drink allowed, TV monitors, bathroom aboard, and comfortable seating for about 56 passengers) I realized this tour isn’t quite PG, (not unlike Sex and the City, the show) as my guide, Stephanie asked the group “Are you all ready for some sex?” I wouldn’t bring kids on this tour, as the stops included aren’t quite family-friendly either.
As Stephanie guided us through various areas of Manhattan, starting near Central Park, heading through SoHo, the Meatpacking District, West Village, and more, she pointed out each hotel, park, restaurant, bakery, café, shoe store, bar, etc. that has been featured in Sex and the City the show, as well as both feature films. I think the best part was that after passing each site, she would play clips from the episodes and movies that showed the characters in scenes at those exact locations, so we could re-live those memorable moments after seeing the sites in real life.
A few stops along the way where we got to get out and explore, were the Pleasure Chest, a the sex shop where Charlotte gets the famous Rabbit, Magnolia’s bakery (and we got free cupcakes!) and Scout, the bar Aiden and Steve owned, which is really a bar called O’Nieals in SoHo. This tour was really informative and gave some great insight for fans of Sex and the City and the tour guides are bursting with behind-the-scenes knowledge!
