New York Street Fairs Spring 2004
One way of seeing New York City as the inhabitants are the street fairs. Very local in nature, the streets of masonry canyons become urban souks.
The first street fair appeared magically one morning along Amsterdam Avenue in the upper West Side of Manhattan only to disappear at 6 pm.
These street fairs are not farmers markets, which take place at several areas of the city on a regular basis, but rather offer a selection beyond general imagination.
This next street fair took over the uptown side of Broadway in the 70's.
Street fairs occur in the spring and fall. The summer is too hot and too many people are on vacation.
