Summary
Features: The Asia Society NYC is a museum and Asian cultural center, with one location in New York City and many others around the world. The New York Asia Society is located in Upper East Side Manhattan. It features a variety of unique exhibits including limited showcases of artwork created by various Asian artists.
Why We Go: The Asia Society NYC features a broad collection of artwork from different Asian cultures as well as some incredible limited time exhibitions that offer a very unique look at the art world from different parts of Asia.
- Daily Tours: The Asia Society NYC offers daily tours each afternoon, available to all guests in attendance. It's a great way to learn about the different exhibits without being overwhelmed with information, as they share tidbits of information as you go.
- Leo Bar: The cash bar at the Asia Society NYC, Leo Bar, is hosted by the museum two Fridays each month. Attendees can enjoy some fine cocktails along with free admission and tours in the evening.
- Limited Events: The Asia Society NYC is host to some incredible limited display exhibits. One of the late 2010 exhibitions of the neo-pop artwork from Yoshitomo Nara is just one example of many you will see coming through Asia Society NYC.
Inside Knowledge: The Asia Society NYC is the headquarters for all other Asia Society locations around the world. It is also home to the Rockefeller's collection of Asian artwork.
Do's and Don'ts:
- Do Visit on Fridays: Fridays, at certain times throughout the year, have additional evening tours and sometimes run free admission events with an open cash bar via the Leo Bar. This is your best night to come, as it can be an easy, fun, and early start to your Friday night on the town.
- Do Bring a Sketchpad and a Pencil: Although the Asia Society NYC does not allow attendees to bring pens or markers into the museum, you are welcome to bring a sketch pad and a pencil if you would like to capture some of the exhibits in your scrap book. This is your best chance to take a glimpse of the artwork home with you, as photography and cell phone use (other than for the cell phone tour) is strictly prohibited.
- Don't Touch: The museum kindly asks that guests do not touch the artwork in order to preserve it in ideal condition.
- Don't Miss the Garden Court Cafe: The Garden Court Cafe is located in the lobby of the Asia Society NYC and offers some delightful dishes in a warmly lit space. Informal performances and readings from other artists are featured entertainment here.
