Nice View of NY Harbor
During my stay in NYC, I was told that Battery Park is a great place to see the Statue of Liberty from land. Although I had seen it on a couple of Harbor Line and Circle Line boat tours, I wanted to check out the view from the park as well. As far as viewing the statue, this is not the place I would recommend, and the boat tours give a much closer look – the statue was tiny from Battery Park, and if this were my first attempt at seeing it, I would have been disappointed. However, I had never been to Battery Park, so I wanted to check it out as well.
Battery Park is right on the water of the NY Harbor, near Chelsea Piers and there are remains of Castle Clinton, which is over 200 years old. Its original purpose was to protect NY Harbor during the war of 1812 and amazingly, a good portion of this circular barricade brick wall still stands tall. I’m not much of a history buff personally, but it was interesting to learn some NYC history.
This is also where you can catch a boat ride to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty, so it gives a nice view of the Harbor but it's not the most exciting place in NYC.
