Like Drinking in a Castle!
Boat Basin is one of the coolest restaurants I’ve been to, based on the location alone. It’s an outdoor café right on the Hudson River in Riverside Park, overlooking the water. The formation of the place is a brick rotunda, which made me feel like I was inside a castle, yet outside.
I went here with some friends after the NYC Marathon, to celebrate a couple runners in our group, so naturally we made use of the bar! I ordered the grilled cheese with tomato soup, which I honestly wasn't impressed with - the cheese was barely melted. Some friends got chicken wings, and loved them however, so I think the food is hit and miss.
The service wasn’t all that friendly – we were with a group of about 20 people and 3 of us wanted to order up at the bar to avoid the hassle of splitting up a 20-person check at the end, and our server rudely said that’s not the point of large groups and that we couldn’t do that. When he walked away we walked to the bar and placed our orders there anyway.
Aside from my mediocre food and un-cooperative service, I still had a great time and really enjoyed the location and style of the place. It was unlike any cafe I’ve been to before and I’d definitely go back for drinks again. It’s a great place for a Sunday funday on a nice day in NYC.
