Summary
Features: Buddakan New York in Chelsea embodies the trendy NYC scene to a T. Great for dinner and drinks, this modern Asian fusion restaurant in Manhattan attracts a young, hip crowd and provides a chic and classy ambiance. Head to Buddakan NYC for a special occasion, or make any night of the week feel like an event at this elegant dining hot spot in New York City.
Why We Dine: Buddakan represents high quality in every aspect of the restaurant. From the astoundingly elegant and modern Asian decor to the amazing culinary creations on the menu, Buddakan in NYC is guaranteed to impress.
- Fun, Chic, Hip: The atmosphere alone is reason to visit Buddakan New York. As guests step inside, modern background music plays and dim lighting reflects against the amazing decor throughout the entire space. The restaurant is always packed full of young Downtown Manhattanites, meeting for drinks, enjoying dinner and loving the vibe.
- Large Event Space: Buddakan NYC offers two levels of large dining space, full bar and happy hour shared self-seating in the lounge area. On top of that, the bottom level can be reserved for private parties and a very large table can be placed in the middle for a single-table group dinner.
- Tasteful and Trendy: At Buddakan in NYC, not only do you feel trendy sipping on cocktails in this chic environment frequented by NYC celebrity residents and visiting stars, but the food here is top quality and bursting with flavor. The modern Asian cuisine served is creative, freshly made and pleasing to both the eye and palate.
Inside Knowledge: The downstairs private dining space inside Buddakan NYC has been featured in the Sex and the City film, as the location of Carrie and Big's rehearsal dinner the night before their wedding. Buddakan Restaurant New York is well-known in the who's who scene in New York City, on and off screen.
We Recommend:
- Lobster Egg Rolls: Buddakan New York services lobster egg rolls on their bar menu, filled with delicious lobster and vegetables, with a sweet dipping sauce. The combination of amazing flavors, plus the crispy outside and warm crunchy inside makes a divine combination.
- Shared Self-Seating: Because Buddakan NYC is so popular, any given night is bound to fill up very quickly. If reservations are full, we suggest going to the restaurant and dining in the bar lounge area, which has large tables for sharing. Seat yourself, and a cocktail server will happily take your food and beverage orders.

Dine Like an A-Lister
Buddakan is a very trendy restaurant in Chelsea, where an A-list crowd is common, and after going, I can see why. The food, drinks and atmosphere are top-notch. I first came here during a Sex and the City Hotspots Tour.
The first main room is the bar lounge, and past that is the main dining area. This restaurant is two stories and from back dining area on the entrance level you can look down into the basement level, where there’s a really long table for private parties. This exact table also happens to be a filming location of Sex and the City – the movie, where Carrie and Big have the dinner party the night before their wedding.
There’s a full bar, and I went in the early evening, so it there were no tables available, but the bar lounge is seat-your-self, and large sleek black square tables are for sharing. Seating was definitely limited, which I assume is normal since this place is so popular, but even for being so busy the service was great. Cocktail servers took orders throughout the bar area, which is dimly lit and besides the large shared tables, the outside walls were lined with more intimate round tables as well. Pop music was bumping through the restaurant and the crowd was definitely young and trendy. You can definitely tell it’s a who’s who kind of restaurant.
I was there for happy hour before heading out for the night, so I just ordered an appetizer of lobster eggrolls (which my server said was her favorite appetizer on the menu) and a glass of Prosecco. Both the food and drink were delicious and I would absolutely recommend checking this place out. It’s bit pricey, but worth the ambiance and the quality is excellent.
