La MaMa presents Chemistry of Love Summary

Event Overview: This one of a kind show combines various mediums and promises a memorable performance that depicts the taxing effort creating a work of art entails. The work was written by Jill Campbell, directed by George Ferencz, and will be playing at LaMaMa's Theatre from May 2-19, 2013.

What to Expect: Chemistry of Love portrays the art-making process in a utterly new and unique way. It does this through the story of an artist named Lara, who after she is nominated for a $500k grant quickly learns that friends in the small and close-knit art world are always competitors first. Watch transfixed as this spellbinding tale of creativity, jealousy and friendship unwinds before your eyes.

  • Memorable Characters: Lara and her friends are characters that will stick in the audiences' mind long after the show concludes, as they try to juggle their own personal advancements and success with their friendships.
  • Acclaimed Writer: Jill Campbell has won the praise of TimeOut London, who called her previous play "compelling," and the Camden New Journal, London who notes her "words are so beautiful and real the audience is perched on the edge of its seat."
  • New Perspective on Art: Theatre-goers will walk out with a new appreciation for the art-making process and new insight to the political aspects of the art world. Jill Campell told that this is going to be the only show opening this spring that "uses a beer bon in interesting ways while putting film on stage and stage on film... if you see it, you'll get it."

Inside Knowledge: The cast of Chemistry of Love includes Broadway veteran Dennis Parlato, Matt Baxter Luceno of the Shakespeare Theatre Company, and Kim Merril.

Event Hints:

  • Order tickets online: This play will only be playing from May 2-May 19th, so securing your ticket online ahead of time is a wise idea to ensure you get a seat.

  • Don't bring the kids: This is a conceptual play that will most likely not be enjoyed by young children.
