The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals ®

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is a coalition of more than 100 animal rescue groups and shelters that are working with the City of New York to reduce, and eventually eliminate, the killing of healthy and treatable dogs and cats in NYC shelters. The Mayor's Alliance is working to increase pet adoptions, reduce animal homelessness, raise public awareness of local shelters and rescue groups and their animals, and strengthen the city's existing efforts and resources.

Among the Mayor's Alliance initiatives that are saving lives in New York City are:

• The Mayor's Alliance transport van program that transports animals from New York City's Animal Care & Control (AC&C) shelters to other member rescue groups and shelters that find them loving homes;
• The Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance that pays for extraordinary medical care for sick and injured animals transferred from New York City's AC&C shelters to other member organizations;
• Collaborative adoption events involving multiple member shelters and rescue groups, including AC&C;
• The Feral Cat Initiative that supports trap-neuter-return (TNR) of feral cats throughout the city; and
• The promotion of spay/neuter programs (including low-cost programs like the Maddie's Spay/Neuter Project in NYC for City residents who have a Medicaid card) to reduce the number of unwanted animal births; microchipping and dog licensing (to help reunite lost pets with their families); and adoption instead of purchasing pets from pet stores or irresponsible breeders.
