Summary
Features: The FDNY Fire Zone in Manhattan gives kids the chance to climb on to a real FDNY firetruck and try on a real FDNY fire jacket, all the while learning important fire safety facts from retired NYC firefighters. This interactive FDNY Museum is both informative and fun for children visiting NYC, and makes for a great way to spend an hour in Midtown.
Why We Go: FDNY is renowned as some of the bravest individuals in the world, so who better to give fire safety advice than the experts at the FDNY Fire Zone?
- Interactive Presentations: Hands-on presentations at the FDNY Fire Zone include video and light displays simulating a home fire, as well as a "hot" door presentation where kids learn how to feel for a dangerous room.
- Fire Safety 101: Kids who visit the FDNY Museum come away from this NYC attraction knowing how to react in an emergency situation. The FDNY Fire Museum teaches visitors how to crawl down a smoky hallway, and the importance of developing an escape plan with their family. The FDNY Fire Zone is both informative and entertaining for young kids.
Inside Knowledge: General admission to the FDNY Fire Zone is free. However, for the full fire safety presentation, kids and adults can purchase all-inclusive tickets for $6. Fire safety presentations at the FDNY Museum help children and parents identify fire hazards at home, and presentations and tours of the FDNY Fire Museum leave every hour on the half-hour.
Do's and Don'ts:
- Do Try on the Equipment: Kids who visit the FDNY Museum NYC will be stunned by just how heavy the fire equipment is, and who doesn't love trying on the famous FDNY fire helmets?
- Do Make an Escape Plan: Take the time to develop a home fire escape route with your kids when you visit the FDNY Fire Zone in Midtown.
- Don't Miss the Gift Shop: The gift shop at the FDNY Museum features authentic NYC souvenirs like FDNY hats, jackets, and even jerseys that pay tribute to these NEw York City heroes.
- Don't Attempt to Slide Down the Fire Pole: Yes, you will see the famous fire pole during your visit to the FDNY Fire Zone. But no, you are not allowed to slide down this slippery two-story pole!
