NYCTourist Travel Info

Features: One of the most popular weekday morning talk shows in the United States, Live with Regis and Kelly first aired, in its original incarnation, in 1983. In each hour episode, hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa discuss the news, interview celebrity guests, and banter good-humoredly with each other. The show celebrated its 6,935th episode on December 3, 2010.

Why We Go: Live with Regis and Kelly is now Live with Kelly, and has been a fixture on weekday morning television for over twenty years. Averaging close to five million viewers per episode, the show is consistently rated one of the top syndicated daytime talk shows in the United States.

  • Lively Banter: People tune in to Live Kelly for a lot of reasons: the phone-in contests, the reality TV gossip, the notable celebrity guests. But, more than anything, people used to watch the show because of the excellent chemistry between hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. It was their lively banter and perfect conversational ease that made the show what it is today and now Kelly Ripa is continuing the chats solo.
  • Celebrity Guests: Like most morning talk shows in New York, Live Kelly often features celebrity guests. Recent guests have included Suzanne Somers, Seth Meyers, and Jennifer Connelly.
  • Free: Tickets to Live with Kelly are free, but you must request them early, as each date books up fast. Those who have no reserved tickets in advance may still show up at the studio to try for standy seating.

Inside Knowledge: In its first incarnation, Live with Regis and Kelly was called The Morning Show and was hosted by Regis Philbin and Cyndey Garvey. Now, Regis Philbin has left the show as well, but instead of replacing him, the show just became Live with Kelly! In 1984, one year after the show's debut, Garvey was replaced by Ann Abernathy, who was then replaced by Kathy Lee Gifford (then known as Kathy Lee Johnson). In 2001, Gifford was succeeded by Kelly Ripa, who hosts the show today.

Do's and Don'ts:

  • Do Arrive Early: If you have reserved tickets for Live with Regis and Kelly's Live with Kelly, make it a point to arrive about an hour before filming begins (that is, at 8am). If you haven't reserved tickets, and you want to try your luck in the standby line, arrive no later than 7am, especially in peak months such as July.
  • Do Leave the Kids at Home: Children under ten are not admitted to the live taping of Live with Regis and Kelly, and children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We recommend you leave the kids at home.
  • Don't Delay in Requesting Tickets: If you'd like to see Live with Kelly on a certain date, be sure to reserve your tickets well in advance - no less than eight weeks before your choice date. Tickets are particularly scarce in the summer. Be sure to include back-up dates in your request.
  • Don't Break the Rules: Eating, drinking, smoking, and flash photography are not permitted in the Live with Kelly studio. Respect the rules, or you'll be asked to leave.
