New Jersey Devils History
The New Jersey Devils's Old Jersey from 1982 to 1992
The current jerseys used since 1992
The New Jersey Devils weren't originally in New Jersey. They started out as the Kansas City Scouts in their NHL league in 1974. They moved to the Colorado Rockies, after sporting the worst records in the NHL for a number of years. The decision for the team to be moved to New Jersey finally came in the early 80s, when the team was purchased by John McCullen.
When the team moved to New Jersey, they were given their name the Devils based on the urban legend of the Jersey devil. In 1982, the New Jersey Devils played through the season with a 17-49-14 record, which was second from last place in the league. While they made a move to New Jersey, they still had a lot of work to do in order to get out of their reputation as one of the worst in the league.
Over the years, after acquiring young players and making needed changes, the New Jersey Devils eventually rose to success. While they managed to reach the playoffs for many seasons in the late 80s and early 90s, the NJ Devils were knocked out in tough spots each time.
At least until 1995, when the New Jersey Devils won their first Stanley Cup. Currently, the New Jersey Devils have 3 Stanley Cups to their name along with 4 Conference Championship titles.
Restaurants at the Prudential Center Newark
The Acela Club at Citi Field
There is one major restaurant located in the Prudential Center Newark. It is the Acela Club, which requires reservations and is open to all people who have tickets for events at the Prudential Center.
The Acela Club takes restaurant seating before all events and offers a custom built wine rack. It is open 90 minutes prior to all events, usually at 5:30 PM and 7:00 for NJ Devils games. Once second seating takes place for an event, the restaurant will only have its bar menu available to patrons.
One of the key features of the Acela Club is its ledge seating, which lets restaurant guests enjoy their meal while being able to look at the show below. If you would like to get ledge searing, we have two pieces of advice:
- Reserve early: You should book reservations at Acela Club ahead of time to secure ledge seating. Late reservations nearing the start time of the event will guarantee you do not get ledge seating.
- Spend money: Acela Club requires a $75 minimum charge for ledge seating, and you will most likely be required to order this much before even taking a seat. Come ready to spend, or you will be denied ledge seating.
Other Sporting Events at Prudential center
The Prudential Center: Home to the NJ Devils since 2007
If you are looking for other sporting events during or after the hockey season, then you are in luck. Prudential Center Newark is also home to the Seton Hall Pirates college basketball team, and the New York Liberty WNBA basketball team.
The Prudential Center will also be the home of the New York Nets NBA team for the next two years, starting with their 2010/2011 season. Check out NYCtourist for details on these other sporting events as well as ticket information.
