New York Comic Con Summary
Event Overview: Comic Con NYC is an annual comic convention that celebrates comics, pop culture, and the arts. It takes place in the fall of each year in Midtown Manhattan at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The NYC Comic Con features a large exhibit hall with industry leading companies promoting their products, vendors with collectibles, artists, panels with industry leading professionals, and more.
What to Expect: Comic Con NYC has some of the comic industry's leading professionals and companies in attendance. It is also a popular gathering place for fans of comics, art, and pop cultures that would like to meet more people who are interested in the same things.
- Big-Name Guests: Interested in hearing what Stan Lee and Kevin Smith have to say about the pop culture industry? Comic Con NYC has had big-name guests like these in the past, and they continue to schedule some of the top professionals in the pop culture industry to speak at panels during their convention.
-
Growing: The NYC Comic Con keeps getting bigger. In 2009, over 70,000 guests attended the massive pop culture convention, making this one of the largest pop culture events of the year much like the San Diego Comic Con.
Inside Knowledge: Comic Con NYC first began in 2006 and was administered by Reed Exhibitions, a for-profit company that organizes large-scale events. The first event was larger than expected at over 30,000 attendees, and that number has more than double since then.
Event Hints:
-
Order Your Ticket Early: Comic Con NYC has grown from a small but popular convention to a massive NYC event in just a few years. If you don't pre-register your tickets when they go on sale, then chances are you are not going to get the full-day pass.
-
Use the Shuttle System: Comic Con NYC offers a shuttle system that will bring guests to the convention center from the official hotels. If you are wearing a badge and staying at a hotel not affiliated with the event organizer, find one of the shuttle stops anyway. It beats paying for public transportation.
-
Japanese Animation Show: Comic Con NYC attendees can also get into the New York Anime Festival, which is an event that celebrates the world of Japanese animation. These two big events share the same convention center.
