"How Do I Get There?"
Here are some useful directions to some of the more out of the way destinations.
The Statue of Liberty (Ferry stop at end of Battery Park)- From the East Side of Manhattan: take the 4 or 5 subway line downtown to Bowling Green station. This will let you off at the top of Battery Park.
Just walk away from the buildings into Battery Park towards the round fortress known as Castle Clinton. That's where you buy the ferry tickets. - From the West Side of Manhattan: the 1 line South Ferry station has been reopened as of September 15, 2002. As before, you must be in the first 5 cars because that station is short.
- From the East Side of Manhattan: take the 4 subway line uptown to 161st Street. This will let you off right at the stadium.
- From the West Side of Manhattan: take the B or D subway line uptown to 161st Street. This is the same station as above.
- From Manhattan: take the 7 subway line from the Times Square or Grand Central stations at 42nd Street all the way out to the Willets Point/Shea Stadium station.
- From the East Side of Manhattan: take the 4, 5 or 6 subway line uptown to 86th Street. This will let you off at Lexington Avenue. You can then walk up 3 blocks to Fifth Avenue and over to 83rd Street. - From the West Side of Manhattan: take the 1, 9, B or C subway lines uptown to 86th Street. Use the free Metrocard transfer and take the M86 crosstown bus east through Central Park to Fifth Avenue. You can also take any uptown bus (M10, M7, M11, M104) to 86th Street and transfer to the 86th Street crosstown bus going east.
- From the East Side of Manhattan: take the M4 bus (ask the driver if the bus goes all the way to the Cloisters) up Madison Avenue to the end of the route. This ride takes about 90 minutes from midtown.
- From the West Side of Manhattan: take the A subway train uptown to the 190th Street/ Overlook Terrace station. This ride takes about 45 minutes but there is a longer walk through the park when you get there.
- From the East Side of Manhattan: take the 5 subway uptown to the 180th Street station and transfer to the 2 subway uptown to the Pelham Parkway station. Walk west to the Bronxdale entrance.
- From the West Side of Manhattan: take the 2 subway uptown to the Pelham Parkway station. Walk west to the Bronxdale entrance
- From the East Side of Manhattan: take any uptown or downtown bus to 79th Street and transfer to the M79 bus heading west. You'll go through the park and get off at the first stop, Central Park West. The Museum is across the street. If you use the subway, take the 6 train to 77th Street and walk to 79th Street and follow the directions above.
- From the West Side of Manhattan: take the M10 up 8th Avenue to 79th Street; take the M7 up 6th Avenue or the M11 up 10th Avenue to 81st Street and walk 1 block East to Central Park West. Take the B or C subway line to the 81st Street station.
