Who doesn't want to save lions? The 2012 Run For the Wild, a 5k run through the Bronx Zoo is this Saturday, April 28th.  Participants of all ages in this charity race, in efforts with the Wildlife Conservation Society, will raise money to save lions at the zoo and all over the world.Lions are the main focus of this year's event, though all donations and funds raised will help the entire WCS, helping other wildlife as well.

Not only is this a great way to be involved in a good cause, but it's a full day of fun with the animals; participants in the Run For the Wild will get free admission to the Bronx Zoo all day. Prizes will be given away all day as well!

There is still time to sign up to participate or donate, and each adult and senior participant will be required to raise at least $30. The requirement is waived for children who wish to walk or run.

Registration is open from 7am-9am, with run time starting at 8am. Family fun walkers and runners will begin at 8:45am (strollers welcome at this time.)

There will be a number of post-race activities from 9am-12pm. Here's the schedule of the family-friendly post-race events:

  • 9:30-12pm: DJ Phillip Santos is spinning music.
  • 9am-4pm: Sponsor & Partner gift give-aways!
  • 9am: Post-run stretches
